In Commemoration of World Human Rights Day

In commemoration of World Human Rights Day 2025, the Human Rights & Conflict Resolution Centre Abakaliki (HRCRC), in partnership with the National Human Rights Commission (Abakaliki Office) and the Ebonyi State Civil Society Network, held a press conference to spotlight the pressing challenges facing Ebonyi residents ā€” from HRCRC”s access road deplorable condition, EEDC exploitative practices, dangerous unreclaimed mining pits, and more – following this year’s theme – HUMAN RIGHTS-OUR EVERYDAY ESSENTIALS.
We call on the government to listen to the voices of the people and take urgent action. Ebonyi citizens deserve safety, dignity, and accountability.
A heartfelt appreciation to Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ihwo, St Patrick’s Missionary Society, West Africa Regional Leader and Chairman of our Board for his physical presence and for his unwavering support.

Maiden gathering of FRIENDS OF HRCRC

Maiden Gathering of FRIENDS OF HRCRC: On Monday, October 20, 2025, our Board, team, and Volunteers hosted the maiden gathering of FRIENDS OF HRCRC. They are persons who actually believe in the cause and work of HRCRC and an avenue to become more involved collaborators by contributing directly to the work of HRCRC.
This local band of supporters will eventually become a self-sustaining, self-organizing group that will help support and further the work and projects of HRCRC materially, financially, and by awareness creation and spreading the word.
At induction and membership, each member can add FOH ā€“ Friend of Human Rights ā€“ to their name, and will meet annually to review the previous year and contributions, and plan and contribute for the coming year.
We deeply appreciate everyone who has contributed and collaborated with us voluntarily during the course of our work, and for the support.

Institutionalization of HelpDesk Officers

institutionalization of HelpDesk Officers : Following up with the institutionalization of HelpDesk Officers in 6 LGAs in Ebonyi State in the #mylga project,
HRCRC in collaboration with EiENigeria facilitated a training session for the already inaugurated HelpDesk Officers in the State to enhance their capacity to carry out their duties efficiently.

Continuation of Prison Decongestion

Continuation of Prison Decongestion: For about 4 years, HRCRC has been representing and trying to secure the release of 36 inmates incarcerated in the Abakaliki Correctional Custodial Center (Prisons) unjustly. These inmates had been discharged by four different courts on four different occasions in the course of our interventions but their detention continued.
Gleefully, 12 of these inmates were discharged again yesterday and were released from detention. As we continue the fight to ensure the release of the others as well as other unjustly incarcerated inmates, we thank all through whose support, collaboration, and cooperation this was achieved.

HRCRC 2025 1st Quarter Meeting

HRCRC 2025 1st Quarter Meeting: We held our 1st quarter General Meeting for 2025 having in attendance all HRCRC staff and branches/volunteers across the state.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of 2 Motorcycles to the Branches Coordinator, as well as the most consistent and active branch (Iboko) following our policies and procedures. This is to aid their work and interventions in the villages and communities. This was made possible through the support of our mother organization ā€“ St Patrick’s Missionary Society to whom we are most grateful.
It is our hope that through the support of benevolent benefactors, all our branches in the communities and villages will have motorcycles to aid their work.
