Campaign In Opposition to Violence Against Women and Girls

Campaign In Opposition to Violence Against Women and Girls
The YOUTHHUBAFRICA in collaboration with UNWOMEN organized and funded a Campaign In Opposition to Violence Against Women and Girls(VAWG) and all forms of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and HPs which was facilitated by HRCRC‘s George Etamesor in support of the fight against all forms of violence.
The campaign was organized in form of a football tournament to bring youths and like-minds together in other to enlighten them on the dangers of violence against women and girls.
The facilitator explained in plain language and to the barest understanding of all whilst pointing out things that seemed normal to everyone but are also a form of violence being perpetuated by youths.
The campaign also gave room for question-and-answer segments where everyone was allowed to air their views and in turn get answers to all pending questions.
Topics that were treated include; Rape, Stalking, Consent, Deceit, and all other forms of violence.
The campaign came to an end with a final football tournament where the winning teams had access to their prizes after the last segment of the campaign.
We’re grateful to #youthhubafrica and #unwomen for the initiative and support.

In the spirit of taking developmental stands, all staff of HRCRC gathered in the Thereza Ozor Nweke Conference Room of the office complex for a series of meetings and training on the New Standard of Operations for HRCRC.
The meeting saw the introduction of the new internet-based processes for the registration and processing of cases, allowing for remote access to the database, audio recording of complaints and responses, and general digitalization and computerization of our operations.
Also Fr. Emma Edet, our resident psychologist/therapist made an input on ‘Stress in the Workplace; while a few staff members were celebrated in our HRCRC style.

IF A WOMAN BUYS A PROPERTY IN THE NAME OF HER HUSBAND, IT DOES NOT BELONG TO HIM.

JUSTICE FOR A 12 YEAR OLD RAPE VICTIM
IF A WOMAN BUYS A PROPERTY IN THE NAME OF HER HUSBAND, IT DOES NOT BELONG TO HIM.
Important to note in repressive cultures like ours here…
Where a woman buys a property in the name of her husband, it does not belong to him. Rather, the husband is holding the property in trust (as a guardian, to help her keep the property) for his wife. However, where a husband buys a property in the name of his wife, the property belongs to the wife, and it is seen as a gift from him to her.
This was what the Court said in JOLUGBO & ANOR v. AINA & ANOR (2016) LPELR – 40352 (CA) (Pp 27 – 29 Paras A – D) where Hon. Justice Amina Adamu Augue JCA (as she then was) said that: “The law also makes a distinction between the husband and the wife – when a wife buys a property, and conveys it in the name of her husband, there is no presumption of advancement in favour of her husband; he holds in trust for his wife.
However, if the husband purchases a property in his wife’s name, this is prima facie a gift to her – see Silver v. Silver (1958) 1 All E. R.523.” Thus, if a man does not desire to gift his wife a property, it should be bought in his name or in the joint names of himself and his wife. Please share widely among family, friends, colleagues and associates.
Thank you.
