HRCRC RELEASED TWO INMATES FROM CORRECTIONAL CENTER ABAKALIKI.
Following our resolve to decongest the correctional centers, Last week, HRCRC again facilitated the release of two inmates from the Abakaliki Correctional Center who have been in custody for over two (2) years without any witnesses.
The Abakaliki Correctional Center is currently housing over 1658 inmates awaiting trial, exceeding its capacity of about 370 inmates in overwhelming proportions. This overcrowding logically results in poor living condition, and increased risk of human rights violations.
We are grateful to the Honorable Attorney General of the Ebonyi State, Hon. Ben Uruchi Odoh, the Ministry of Justice and other actors in the Justice Sector who are open and deeply involved in the mission of restoring Human Dignity in our Justice System.

We have resumed activities for the year 2025.
Our interventions are strongly rooted on Peacebuilding, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Access to Justice and Access to Mental Wellness and our beneficiaries include persons from all works of life, vulnerable persons, persons with disabilities and marginalized persons.
Our office is located at Human Rights Complex, Rev. Fr. Kevin O’Hara Close, off Hilltop Road, close to Water Reservoir, Waterworks Road, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
