ENDSARS PROTEST A RECOGNITION OF HUMAN RIGHTS BY NIGERIANS
Nigeria is a heterogenous society, with a people ready to thrive for the best no matter the circumstances. This has made Nigerians come out as resilient, dogged and adventurous people.
However, recently, there has been protests emanating from the brutality caused by law enforcement agents. Especially an arm of the police charged with the responsibility of handling crime in the likes of robbery called, Special anti-robbery squad (SARS).
As against the popular trend of protesting in Nigeria, which is one or two days and then all is forgotten. This protest has continued for a while and from the tempo build, it is just warming up. Worthy of note, is the spirit of the protest which started as one seeking a stop to SARS brutality but is taking an all-encompassing approach to seek for justice for victims of the brutality, accountability by our leaders and a host of other well thought and reformative ideas.
Ordinarily these demands are rights of citizens of every democratic country in the world but has over the years being neglected in Nigeria. All these come at the hills of the celebration of Nigeria’s 60th independent Anniversary. And it goes without saying that if the spirit of this protest around the country and the demands remain full proof from corruptive elements, and those seeking to derive personal benefits, it will surely birth a new phase of the giant of Africa setting the trend where human rights are upheld which is the window for a progressive society. #Doitright
